Kloovenburg Vineyards started planting Parisian figs, also known as Evita, in 2009 and now have a total of 3.5 ha.

Parisian is a fig variety which originates from a town named Solliès-Pont in the Var department of Provence-Alpes Côte d’Azur in the south east of France. Here it is known and sold under the name Violette de Solliès and is the only fig to have an appellation d’origine contrôlée (AOC).

It is a small to medium-sized purple-skinned fig with a slightly flattened shape and a rich, deep red pulp. The fruit is sweet, with a good balance of acids to enhance the flavour. The Parisian fig performs well in the Mediterranean-type climate found in the Riebeek-Kasteel area. The fig trees grow particularly well in the fertile red soils on Kloovenburg, producing large, luscious figs for export and the local market.

Harvest starts at the beginning of February and usually lasts for up to two months.
